BRB, I’m Busy celebrates what girls are making, learning, collecting, practicing, trying, accomplishing, and dreaming up.
Because many of our contributors are minors, this submission form is intended to be completed and submitted by a parent or legal guardian on behalf of their child.
Please read this Parent/Guardian Submission + Publication Release before submitting materials to BRB, I’m Busy.
1. Parent or Guardian Authorization
By submitting the form and electronically signing this Release, I confirm that:
- I am at least 18 years old;
- I am the parent or legal guardian of the child identified in the submission, or otherwise have legal authority to grant the permissions described in this Release on the child’s behalf; and
- the information I provide is accurate to the best of my knowledge.
I understand that BRB, I’m Busy will rely on these statements when considering and using the submission.
2. What I Am Submitting
On behalf of my child, I may voluntarily provide BRB, I’m Busy with:
- my child’s first name;
- my child’s age;
- answers to questions about their interests, experiences, hobbies, activities, accomplishments, opinions, goals, favorite books, music, shows or movies, and similar topics;
- photographs of artwork, projects, crafts, collections, creations, objects, activities, accomplishments, or other things connected with their submission; and
- any other written or visual material I voluntarily include in the submission.
I understand that I should not submit unnecessary identifying or sensitive information about my child, including their last name, home address, school name, exact location, personal email address, telephone number, social-media username, account information, or other private identifying information.
3. Permission to Use and Publish the Submission
If my child’s submission is selected, I authorize BRB, I’m Busy to use, reproduce, publish, display, distribute, format, crop, resize, and otherwise incorporate the submitted materials, along with my child’s submitted first name and age, in connection with BRB, I’m Busy.
This permission includes use in:
- printed issues of BRB, I’m Busy;
- digital editions or digital excerpts of BRB, I’m Busy;
- the BRB, I’m Busy website;
- BRB, I’m Busy email newsletters;
- official BRB, I’m Busy social-media accounts;
- previews, excerpts, announcements, and promotional materials relating to BRB, I’m Busy, its issues, features, events, or projects; and
- archival copies of any of the above.
This permission is limited to BRB, I’m Busy and the promotion, distribution, documentation, and operation of BRB, I’m Busy. It does not authorize BRB, I’m Busy to sell my child’s submitted materials to an unrelated third party for that third party’s independent advertising or commercial use.
4. Editing
I understand that BRB, I’m Busy may edit submitted written responses for spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, length, clarity, formatting, or layout.
BRB, I’m Busy may crop, resize, adjust, or arrange submitted images for publication and design purposes.
BRB, I’m Busy will not intentionally materially change the meaning of my child’s statements or falsely attribute a statement to my child.
5. Ownership and License
My child, I, or the applicable original creator continue to own the original submitted material.
I grant BRB, I’m Busy a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use the submitted materials for the purposes described in this Release.
“Non-exclusive” means that submitting material to BRB, I’m Busy does not prevent my child or the owner of the material from continuing to use, display, publish, or share that material elsewhere.
BRB, I’m Busy retains ownership of its own publication layouts, page designs, graphics, branding, photographs created by BRB, editorial arrangement, and other original BRB, I’m Busy material.
6. Permission for Photographs and Other Submitted Materials
I confirm that I have the right and authority to submit the photographs, written responses, artwork images, and other materials included with this submission and to give BRB, I’m Busy the permissions described in this Release.
If I submit a photograph taken by someone other than me or my child, I confirm that I have permission from the photographer or copyright owner to provide it to BRB, I’m Busy for the uses described here.
I agree not to knowingly submit a photograph that prominently identifies another minor unless I have appropriate authority or permission to do so.
I understand that I should review photographs before uploading them and avoid images displaying unnecessary personal information, including school names, addresses, exact locations, full names, personal contact information, or similar identifying details.
7. Selection Is Not Guaranteed
I understand that submitting material does not guarantee that my child or the submission will be selected, featured, published, or otherwise used by BRB, I’m Busy.
BRB, I’m Busy may decide whether, when, where, and in what format a submission is used and may decline a submission for any reason.
8. No Payment
Unless BRB, I’m Busy and I separately agree otherwise in writing, I understand that participation is voluntary and unpaid.
Neither I nor my child will be owed compensation, royalties, fees, or other payment because BRB, I’m Busy reviews, selects, publishes, distributes, or promotes an authorized submission.
9. Parent Contact Information
My name, email address, electronic signature, and other parent/guardian contact information are collected for administrative purposes connected with the submission.
BRB, I’m Busy may use this information to:
- identify and document the parent or guardian providing permission;
- review and manage the submission;
- contact me with questions about the submission;
- notify me if BRB, I’m Busy is interested in publishing the submission;
- verify information or permissions;
- address correction, privacy, access, or deletion requests; and
- maintain appropriate records relating to permission to use submitted material.
BRB, I’m Busy will not publish my parent/guardian email address or electronic signature as part of my child’s feature.
Submitting this form does not, by itself, subscribe me to promotional email marketing. Any newsletter or marketing subscription will be offered separately.
10. Privacy and Information About My Child
I understand that BRB, I’m Busy intends to collect only information reasonably related to reviewing, administering, selecting, and publishing these voluntary submissions.
I understand that information selected for publication — such as my child’s first name, age, responses, and submitted materials — may become publicly available in print or online as described in this Release.
I understand that once printed material has been distributed or public material has been copied, reposted, archived, photographed, or otherwise shared by others, BRB, I’m Busy may not be able to retrieve every existing copy.
Parent/guardian contact information and unpublished submission information will be handled in accordance with BRB, I’m Busy’s applicable privacy practices.
11. Requests to Review, Correct, Delete, or Withdraw
I may contact BRB, I’m Busy to ask about information associated with my child’s submission or to request a correction or deletion of information that BRB, I’m Busy still maintains.
Before publication, I may also withdraw permission for future publication of an unpublished submission by contacting BRB, I’m Busy.
BRB, I’m Busy will make reasonable efforts to honor a valid parent or guardian request before publication when the request is received in time to do so.
I understand that a request received after material has already been printed, distributed, published, scheduled for production, incorporated into completed materials, or publicly posted may not make it possible to recall or remove all existing copies.
Where reasonably practicable, BRB, I’m Busy may discontinue future online use of the material following a valid parent or guardian request, subject to legal, recordkeeping, archival, and previously completed publication needs.
12. Keeping Submission Information
BRB, I’m Busy may retain submission information for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- review and administer the submission;
- communicate with the parent or guardian;
- prepare or maintain an authorized publication or feature;
- document the permission granted under this Release; and
- comply with applicable legal or business recordkeeping obligations.
Information that is no longer reasonably needed will be deleted or securely disposed of in accordance with BRB, I’m Busy’s applicable privacy and retention practices.
13. Third-Party Services
I understand that BRB, I’m Busy may use service providers reasonably necessary to operate its website, process and store submissions, send communications, produce publications, or operate its business.
Those services may process information on behalf of BRB, I’m Busy as necessary to provide those services.
BRB, I’m Busy does not receive permission through this Release to sell my child’s personal information for unrelated third-party advertising purposes.
14. Release for Authorized Uses
To the extent permitted by law, I authorize the uses described in this Release and agree not to bring a claim against BRB, I’m Busy solely because BRB, I’m Busy uses the submitted materials in a manner that I have expressly authorized under this Release.
This provision does not waive rights or claims that cannot legally be waived, and it does not authorize uses outside the scope of this Release.
15. Electronic Agreement
I understand that this Release is presented electronically.
By selecting the required parent/guardian agreement checkbox, typing my full legal name as my electronic signature, and submitting the form, I intend to sign this Release electronically and indicate that I have read, understood, and agreed to its terms.
I understand that BRB, I’m Busy may maintain an electronic record of my agreement, including the information submitted with the form and the date or time associated with the submission.
16. Entire Permission for This Submission
This Release describes the permission I am granting to BRB, I’m Busy in connection with this particular submission.
If BRB, I’m Busy later wants to use my child’s material in a substantially different way that is not covered by this Release, additional permission may be requested.
Parent/Guardian Acknowledgment
By completing the BRB, I’m Busy submission form, selecting the required agreement checkbox, typing my full legal name, and submitting the form, I confirm that:
- I am the child’s parent or legal guardian, or otherwise have legal authority to provide this consent;
- I have read and understand this Parent/Guardian Submission + Publication Release;
- I voluntarily agree to its terms;
- I authorize BRB, I’m Busy to collect and use the information included in the submission for the purposes described above; and
- I authorize BRB, I’m Busy to edit, reproduce, publish, display, distribute, and share selected submitted materials as described above.
